We had visited it when the princess was still a toddler, but our stay in La Rochelle allowed us to rediscover the famous aquarium. Even if the kids were back at school (we homeschool the princess), it was still quite busy, despite the Covid-19 measures. It was nevertheless an opportunity to take the time to admire magnificent fish and to discover specimens we had spotted in our books.
La Rochelle Aquarium is one of the largest private aquariums in Europe. Founded in 1970, it welcomes around 800,000 visitors each year. You’ll need 1h30 to visit it if you want to take your time and tour the more than 12,000 marine animals. And to give you more figures, the different spaces of La Rochelle Aquarium represent no less than 3 million liters of water.

Located in the heart of the city of La Rochelle, the aquarium is easily accessible and above all, it has a very large car park. You will also find a very nice shop in which we do not fail to buy a souvenir during each of our visits.

The princess loved
She particularly liked the very large tanks of La Rochelle Aquarium, but also the turtles that can be seen at the end of the visit. We spent a lot of time observing the exotic fish as well as the sea turtles which are magnificent. She could have spent 5 hours in the aquarium looking for each specimen.
The ups for kids

Your kids are over 8 years old
They will undoubtedly love La Rochelle Aquarium, and will try to find each species of fish. There are many explanations next to each aquarium, in order to learn more about certain environments. Let your children evolve at their own pace, they will have more fun.
Your kids are less than 8 years old
We advise you to show them the largest aquariums in which they can see sharks and magnificent turtles evolve. La Rochelle Aquarium has a small amphitheater to quietly observe the largest of the aquariums. The show is absolutely fascinating.
The trip to the kingdom of piranhas and turtles is also a great moment for the little ones, as they love to see the little turtles swimming and walking in front of them.
