A Gojira show at the Accor Arena on a Sunday night in November was excuse enough, but Staycation helped us find somewhere nice for less. That’s how we ended up at Hôtel Artus, on rue de Buci in the 6th arrondissement. A small hotel, thoroughly Parisian, with a charm that comes through once you’re past a reception that felt a touch cold and formal for our taste.
What is Hôtel Artus?
Artus is a 31-room 4-star boutique hotel at 34 rue de Buci, steps from Odéon, the rue de Buci market, and the literary cafés that give the neighbourhood its reputation. It belongs to the Biografy group, which also runs the Terrass” Hotel in Montmartre. Its visual identity reads instantly: 1950s-inspired decor, a pop palette, bold colours, designer furniture, geometric prints, and wall art you won’t find in a chain hotel.
This isn’t a hotel trying to blend into the classic Parisian backdrop. It leans fully into its graphic style, its retro-modernist cabaret feel, and that works even better given its address on rue de Buci, a street that’s never exactly played it safe either. Mabillon metro station is a one-minute walk away. Handy for getting around Paris, though we ended up walking to and from Montparnasse both ways in the end.

Which room did we get?
We booked a Classic room through Staycation, breakfast included. At 16 square metres it’s on the small side, but we found it genuinely charming. For more space, go for the Duplex. Since we spent very little time in the room anyway, ours was more than enough.
What makes the difference
The decor deserves a mention on its own. Every room has its own colour palette, its own prints, its own lighting. Nothing homogenous like a group hotel here; it feels personal, and that changes how special the place feels. We really loved the mood of our room, especially in winter, with a properly cocoon-like feel to it.
On the plus side…
What about breakfast?
Breakfast is served every morning in the 1950s-toned dining room, with a selection of fresh, local, organic products. Christian’s eggs, well known to neighbourhood regulars, are one of the house references. Gluten-free options are available on request. Breakfast can also be ordered in-room via a form left the night before.
We found the buffet choice a bit limited and ended up grabbing pastries next door at Copains instead.
Will we be back?
We like the location, but this probably isn’t an address we’ll rush to test again.
Activities
At the hotel
The private sauna is the obvious draw. The hotel also offers à la carte massages by reservation at the front desk: back, feet, face, full body. The honesty bar turns the lobby into a casual spot to unwind, and it works just as well before heading out as it does once you’re back.
Nearby
Rue de Buci starts literally at the door: a morning market, cheesemongers, greengrocers, butchers, delis. It’s one of the liveliest streets in Paris, untouched by any passing trend. People shop here the way they did in 1970, or the way they will tomorrow.
Café de Flore and Les Deux Magots are a 5-minute walk on boulevard Saint-Germain. Shakespeare and Company is 10 minutes away. The bouquinistes along the Seine, 12 minutes. The Jardin du Luxembourg, 10 minutes. Odéon sits at the end of the street. And if you want to push on to the Marais, a 20-minute walk gets you there.

What is Staycation and how does it work?
Staycation is a French app offering night-plus-breakfast packages at characterful hotels (boutique hotels, 4-star properties, palaces) at reduced rates, designed to fill rooms during quieter periods. New offers go live every Wednesday at 9am, in limited quantities, first come first served. You can book up to 45 days ahead or last minute.
Is the Duplex worth the extra cost over the Classic rooms?
If there are two of you and you’re after something different, yes. The two-level layout genuinely changes how the space feels (even if 28 square metres is still 28 square metres). The whirlpool bath and the Himalayan salt-wall sauna turn the Duplex into a wellness stay as much as a hotel room. Free access to the hotel’s spa area is included. The rooftop view over Paris more than makes up for not overlooking the boulevard.
Is there a restaurant at Hôtel Artus?
No. The hotel doesn’t have its own restaurant. It offers room service in partnership with La Diva-des-Prés, available from 12:30pm to 11:30pm. For dinner before or after a concert, Saint-Germain has enough options across every price range that not having an in-house restaurant doesn’t really matter.
How do you get to the Accor Arena from Hôtel Artus?
From Mabillon station (1 minute on foot), head toward Bercy via Montparnasse-Bienvenüe (line 12 then 6) or via Châtelet-Les Halles depending on the schedule. Budget around 25 minutes. The last train gets you back without trouble after the show, as long as the encore doesn’t run too long. By taxi or rideshare, the trip takes 20 to 40 minutes depending on the time of day.
Can you add champagne or flowers for a romantic stay?
Yes. The hotel offers extras you can add directly at booking: a bottle of champagne, a bottle of wine, flowers, chocolates, a fruit basket. Flag it when you book so everything’s waiting in the room on arrival.
Is Artus a non-smoking hotel?
Yes, the whole property is non-smoking, including every room.
Practical Information
Rates vary by room category and season. The private sauna is free with the Duplex; guests in other rooms can book it at reception, and non-guests can access it for €30 per 45-minute session.
