If you have read our other articles, you may know that we made quite a big road trip in September 2021, starting with the Futuroscope and ending with La Rochelle via Brittany. And it was on this occasion that we discovered Rennes by staying at the Balthazar hotel, an ideally located MGallery with a very nice design.

Even if our hotel room was relatively small, we liked its decoration, but also that of the hall and the breakfast room (strong point of the hotel by the way, especially if you are not vegan). Very quiet, the Balthazar hotel is ideally located close to restaurants including Stoïque Rennes and it allowed us to go for a walk in the Brocéliande forest.

Hotel Balthazar is obviously quite popular in Rennes, as it was very busy even though it was September. We appreciated the staff and the adorable valet, but also the service as a whole, including during breakfast. And for the record, the bartender is probably one of the best we have come across during our stays.

Which room with kids?

We had booked one of the Deluxe rooms at Hotel Balthazar, but only because we were staying two nights and we knew we would be away most of the time. Because clearly, with the princess, we didn’t have much room. She had an extra bed on the side, but it was 50cm from our own bed basically.

If you plan to stay longer, we strongly recommend that you opt for a Deluxe Junior Suite.

The princess loved

She really liked the breakfast room at Hotel Balthazar and the breakfast itself, but what she found the prettiest was probably the patio in the lobby which is indeed very nice. She also appreciated the pretty decoration of our room.

What about breakfast?

Breakfast includes many regional products. If you’re not a vegan you should be in foodie heaven with plenty of buttery cakes! Some are homemade, others made by regional shops. We had few vegan choices, but hey, in Brittany, we weren’t expecting miracles. Nevertheless, we found the restaurant room to be very pleasant. We love the decoration as well as the ultra bright patio.

There was a lot of fresh fruit, juices, delicious jams and very good bread.

Breakfast is served daily from 7.30 am to 10.30 am in the restaurant, but you can of course have it delivered to your room.

We’ll be back for?

I don’t think we will be staying in Rennes in the months or even years to come, but if that were to be the case, we would probably come back to the Balthazar Hotel for its nice decoration, its spa which we did not have the time to test and its very pleasant service.

At the hotel

Balthazar hotel is particularly appreciated for its Nuxe spa. It includes a sensory trail, with an animated pool, whirlpool bath, hydromassage … You will also find a sauna and a hammam. We did not go there, because children are not accepted.

You can also have a drink in the restaurant, with excellent cocktails and this very nice decoration.

Close to your hotel

In Rennes, we haven’t done much, but we strongly recommend an escape game in particular, at Escape Yourself Rennes, which is called The Fisherman’s Hut.

You can also indulge in geocaching thanks to an app to download on your mobile.
