We discovered The Langham hotels through the Langham in London. As we love this hotel, it was only natural that we turned to the Langham Huntington in Pasadena during our road trip in California. We stayed for several days under the sun, with some inconvenience quickly caught up by the hotel manager.
After a memorable road trip in California that took us from the London West Hollywood in Los Angeles to Santa Barbara via Monterey and Malibu, among others, we ended our trip at the Langham Huntington Pasadena. Very large historic property, this is a hotel that attracts mainly American guests. You will meet both families with children as well as regulars, older, who seem to spend their days at the Club and do nothing else.
Our room was nothing special, despite being on the Club floor. It was rather small, very close to the elevator and we had to complain as our toilets were clogged. Our alarm also seemed to beep in the middle of the night for some reason. The first few days, no room service … Anyway, I ended up getting in touch with the (French) manager of the hotel, who apologized, offered us a huge chocolate mushroom and made sure that our stay goes as well as possible until our departure.
Our family experience
Which room with a child?
Unlike the one in London, the Club floor at the Langham Huntington Pasadena is nothing exceptional. Instead, we would advise you to book one of the Cottage Suites which are really pretty, much quieter and spacious. We have a soft spot for the Shamrock Cottage Suite which is very beautiful.
The princess loved
She liked the park, which is huge, with plants, trees, a badminton net and a lovely lawn to run on bare feet. She also liked the fact that we could play a game inside the hotel. It was very fun and consisted in searching in different places inside the Langham Huntington Pasadena in order to retrieve tampons and at the end, you won a plush bear. It was a very cool moment together. !
On the plus side …
What about breakfast?
We only tested the Club one. There was quite a lot of choice and we always found something to eat in the morning, but it was not exceptional for us. Unlike the beautiful Langham buffet in London and the many efforts made to please us (coconut yogurt, etc.), the Langham Huntington Club in Pasadena didn’t really meet our expectations.
We’ll be back for …
If we were to come back it would probably be to book a more spacious suite and for the location close to Disney and some of our favorite restaurants such as Little Pine. Nevertheless, we believe that other hotels are worth a visit in Los Angeles so there is little chance that we will ever come back.
At the hotel
There is something for the whole family. The gym is very large and modern, you will inevitably find something that fits your expectations. The spa is very popular, so we recommend booking your treatment when booking your room. Impossible for me to find an available slot … There are also pilates classes with equipments.
The pool is very large, but also very crowded. There are lots of kids playing and shouting, especially during summer. Like all the outdoor pools in California that we tested, it is not heated and therefore cold, especially in the morning.
The park is very beautiful and very nice, despite the fact that it is quite often privatized for a weekend wedding … which is a shame.
Close to your hotel
There is a must-see in Pasadena, and that is the Huntington Library. This place is huge and absolutely sublime. You can spend a whole day strolling through the different spaces, but also discovering the many art collections. Note that in summer, the heat is overwhelming there, so bring a parasol and water!
The Huntington Library store is a real gem that made us want to come back with so many different souvenirs.
Rooms start at $ 250, however, plan on spending at least $ 400 if you are traveling with a child and want to have minimal space in your room.
