It was our September 2021 road trip that allowed us to make so many great discoveries, especially in Brittany. After passing through Rennes and having taken a long walk in the Brocéliande forest, but also after visiting the château d’Angers or going to Futuroscope, we took a break at the tip of Brittany, more precisely in Trébeurden.
We fell in love with this region, with the beauty of its beaches and the fact that they were very clean, but also with its magnificent pink granite coast: the Côte de Granit Rose.
The Côte de Granit Rose is clearly one of Brittany’s must-sees. Huge blocks of granite seem suspended in the air and when the sun arises on them, you really have the feeling that you are in a movie set. And to make the most of it, there’s nothing like following the Sentier des Douaniers (customs officers’ path), which you can follow from Perros-Guirec.

To discover the Côte de Granit Rose, you can start from many places: Perros-Guirec, Trégastel, Pleurmeur-Bodou, but also Trébeurden, where we stayed for a few days.
We found that starting from Perros-Guirec allowed us to enjoy great views and take the coastal footpath for quite a long distance. If you have a nice weather (which was the case for us), this walk is amazing and you will probably love it.
Good to know

Must do
The Côte de Granit Rose extends over a very large area and therefore you can choose certain paths depending on where you are in Brittany.
Some paths are harder than others. The Sentier des Douaniers alone is a real journey. It is more than 2000 km long and therefore goes much further than the Côte de Granit Rose since it extends from Mont-Saint-Michel to Saint-Nazaire.
The trip from Tretraou beach is a 8 km round trip. It will take you between 2h30 and 3h. You will not only love the huge blocks of pink granite, but also the moor and its magnificent colors.
Do not miss the “Maison du Littoral” with its many exhibitions as well as the beach of Saint-Guirec and its oratory. This is the perfect place to swim.
The princess loved
She was a big fan of the granite heaps that seem to defy gravity, as if suspended in the air. Obviously, the sun on the pink granite delighted her.
She didn’t like the fact that there were way too many people on the trail. And yet we were there in September.
The ups for kids

Your kids are over 8 years old
We recommend going from Île Grande to Trébeurden, for a total distance of 12 km, and a walk that lasts around 3 hours.
And if you go to the Côte de Granit Rose in summer, why not plan a snorkeling session? Trébeurden also has a very good diving club.
Your kids are less than 8 years old
If you want to walk on the Sentier des Douaniers, plan to protect them against the sun and/or rain. Also, you have to know that it is not possible to go there with a “normal” stroller or in any case if you really want to give it a try, it will be quite difficult. With a baby, the baby carrier will definitely be the best option.
