The Friendly Kitchen occupies a small address on rue Popincourt, between Bastille and République, where the menu shifts with the seasons and the word “vegan” never means restriction. I was lucky enough to go twice in a row for my birthday. Both times were a treat, a pleasure just to look at, real credit to The Friendly Kitchen for the quality of what they put out.
A neighbourhood address, between Bastille and République
At 8 rue Popincourt, in the 11th arrondissement, The Friendly Kitchen runs on a modestly sized room, designed as much as a wine bar as a restaurant. It’s an easy walk from the Voltaire or Bastille metro stations. The place stays low-key, without the queue or the flashy storefront sometimes associated with the capital’s busiest vegan addresses, and that’s exactly what gives it its charm.
Plant-based, organic, and mostly gluten-free
In the kitchen, chef Fanny Mijon builds an entirely plant-based, mostly gluten-free menu around organic, seasonal produce. The restaurant also holds the Ecotable and FIG labels, two certifications that recognize eco-responsible commitments in the industry. On the drinks side, the list leans on organic or natural wines and craft beers, with several non-alcoholic options that we tried.

She loves anything that’s beautifully plated, thoughtfully composed and colourful, and that’s exactly what The Friendly Kitchen does, with a fully plant-based twist on top.
What we loved
Every single dish and dessert we tried worked. I ate there two days running (surprise invitations), and it never got repetitive: the flavours were different enough from one plate to the next, and each one was well executed. We also loved the service, warm and genuinely happy to talk through the kitchen’s choices. We’ll be back, that much is certain, maybe to try the winter menu.
